In support of freedom of religion, hundreds from Calgary’s Muslim community protested Saturday at City Hall downtown.

Rage has been sparked world-wide in response to the controversial anti-Islam film.

The video depicts the Prophet Mohammed very negatively and has caused violent turmoil overseas, including the murder of a U.S. ambassador in Libya.

However, one of the organizers of the Calgary rally said the film is not the focus of their protest.

“This is not the only hate film, hate speech video that’s out there,” he said. “And hate is not just a phenomenon that’s related to Muslims, it’s related to all minorities, all non-dominant population groups. And we’re here to stop all of that.”

Signs saying “freedom of speech does not mean hate” and “Islam means peace” were seen being carried by hundreds of protesters.
