The Calgary Civic Symphony plays its first ever outdoor concert, Saturday, with a fund-raising gig at Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park.
“You can your lawn chair, you can bring a picnic basket if you want, sit down, listen,” says Symphony President Manon Mitchell. “It’s very informal, but very entertaining.”
“We’re basically playing a variety of music from our repertoire,” adds Mitchell, “so some of the stuff will be classical, as the title says: Beethoven on The Bow. So we will be playing a little bit of Beethoven. But we’ll also be playing some more modern pieces, and as a matter of fact, we’ll be playing some excerpts from Star Wars.”
Proceeds from the performance will go towards a bike path being constructed between Calgary and Cochrane, the Glenbow Ranch Foundation and the Rotary Club.
The performance starts at 2:30 Saturday afternoon.
Tickets are $40 per person or $80 for a family. They’re available at www.rotarymusicandmotion.com or at the door.
Since there is limited parking at the provincial park, show goers will have to take shuttles from either the Crowfoot LRT station or from the Cochrane High School. The shuttles will be running throughout the day.
