A man has now died of his injuries after a suspicious blaze at a rooming house in the southwest community of Mission.
Police say the homicide unit is taking over the investigation.
Around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, fire crews were called to the house in the 300 block of 25th Avenue S.W.
A man, believed to be in his 20′s, was found unconscious on his bedroom floor and was rushed to hospital.
EMS report the man has now died from his injuries.
Three other men managed to escape by breaking a second story window and climbing out onto the roof.
The rooming house has seven bedrooms inside, all rented out to various social agencies.
Abby moved to the neighbourhood ten days ago, and lives two doors down from where the fire occurred. She says she hasn’t met any of the residents of the home.
“There’s always people sitting on the porch, maybe a sketchier crowd, a little bit,” she says. “But they’ve never done anything to make me feel uncomfortable.”
The building appears as if its sustained heavy smoke damage.
