A 40-year-old woman is in hospital and a 21-year-old man has been charged following a hit and run in the northwest community of Bowness.

The collision happened just before 4:00 a.m. Sunday in the 4600 block of 73rd Street.

A man and a woman stopped at the location in a truck and the woman got out.

She was standing directly beside it when a small vehicle side-swiped the truck and pinned her between the two vehicles and she suffered a fractured pelvis, lacerated leg, broken rib and punctured lung.

The man who was still in the truck was not injured.

Police had a basic vehicle description and the driver’s side mirror left behind at the scene to work with and Duty Inspector Mike Tillotson said that was enough.

“Old-fashioned police work,” he said. “They searched the area going up and down alleys and streets, found the vehicle that matched the description and sure enough it was missing the mirror on the driver’s side.”

The car was parked in a back driveway of a residence and the 21-year-old man was arrested.

Clancy Louis McKenna has been charged with criminal hit and run and is scheduled to appear in court Monday morning.

The latest update on the woman had her in stable condition.
