Two people are dead following a serious two-vehicle car crash on Highway 63.
The collision happened around 9:00 a.m., about one kilometre north of Wandering River, shutting down the road between Atmore and Highway 881.
Cam Heke with Stars Air Ambulance said a young boy was airlifted from the scene.
“The patient was in critical condition, with potentially life-threatening injuries, while on route to hospital,” he said.
The boy was transported to University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton and then transported to Stollery Children’s Hospital and RCMP believe he is eight years old.
Another man suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Edmonton, also in critical condition.
The two dead and two critically injured were the only ones involved.
It’s still not clear what exactly caused the crash.
Back in April, seven people were killed in a head-on crash, leading an online petition to twin the so-called “Highway of Death” more quickly than planned.
Nearly 50 people have died in collisions on the road over the last five years.
