Heritage Park is the place to be this weekend for families that are into canning and preserving the fruits and vegetables from the summer growing season.

Saturday and Sunday, the Calgary Produce Marketing Association is holding its annual sale at the southwest Calgary tourism site.

“We encourage people to bring a dolly or a wagon because they are going to leave with that wagon piled high full of goods,” laughs Heritage Park spokesperson Barb Munro who notes the type of produce runs the gamut.  “Pineapples, mangoes, I’ve seen bags of avocados as well.  Lots of big bulk stuff, so that’s great.  And you know, we say old fashioned prices because it really is a great deal on the produce.”

Munro adds you can expect flats of blueberries and great big bags of potatoes, onions, carrots, peppers and tomatoes.

Proceeds from the harvest sale go towards the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation, Calgary Community Kitchen program and the Heritage Park Society.

The sale runs from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.  It is free to attend with your regular Heritage Park gate admission.
