The 8th Annual City-Wide Food Drive happens on Saturday.
Donation bags are being dropped off at homes around Calgary with the hope you’ll put something in it for pick-up.
Food Bank Communications Coordinator Kathryn Sim tells 660News they’re trying to break a Guinness World Record by collecting 560,000 pounds of food.
She’s asking us to keep that in mind when choosing what to donate.
“We’re suggesting canned tuna or canned ham, pasta sauce, canned vegetables or canned fruit, even bags of spaghetti because they have some heft. Those are all really important guaranteed food items that go into every emergency food hamper that leaves the food bank but they also have a little bit of weight to them,” says Sim.
Ten thousand volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will be working to pick-up up donation bags from your doorstep on Saturday between 10am and noon.
