A woman found dead in a suspected drug house in Dover has been identified as the daughter of an Okotoks town councillor.

27-year-old Amy Sands, daughter of Ed Sands, died after neighbours reported hearing screaming and gun shots at the home, Friday morning.

In an interview with 660News, Ed Sands said Amy had been struggling with addiction and hanging out with an unsafe crowd for years.

“She had an at-risk lifestyle and you might say this is a shock, but not a surprise,” he said. “Despite the encouragement to go to rehab, despite the encouragement to make some changes in her life and associate with better friends, she didn’t.”

“Every morning when we listened to your news about a shooting or a stabbing or somebody in a park, we always listened to the names because we wanted to find out if it was one of Amy’s friends.”

Along with her parents, Amy leaves behind a brother and sister and many devastated friends.

But her father said the family are also remembering better times they had with Amy.

“In 2009, we had a good Christmas visit with her,” he said. “We were just actually discussing that, the deterioration probably happened sometime after that.”

Her mother has posted a note on Facebook that says “to our darling Amy, may you find peace now.  We will love you forever.”

Debbie Sands tells The Calgary Herald, along with Amy’s unsafe crowd, her ex-boyfriend had just gotten out of jail.

Homicide detectives say the woman’s death is being treated as suspicious until an autopsy is performed next week.

No suspects have been named, but witnesses are cooperating.

Ed Sands is a six term councillor in Okotoks.
