Alberta’s only lighthouse will soon be demolished.
The structure in Sylvan Lake has been a popular landmark for postcards of the town, 25 kilometres west of Red Deer.
Mayor Susan Samson says it is in too bad of shape to be repaired.
The town plans to replace the nine metre tower with another landmark.
According to The Calgary Herald, the lighthouse was built in 1988 to mark the town’s 75th birthday, but its light has not shone for years.
