Thousands of kids heading back to school may be excited this year because they’ll be in brand new digs.

Education Jeff Johnson will be on hand to open five schools Tuesday in Calgary.

The first, St. Isabella, will open on Copperfield Blvd S.E.

Arrol has lived in the neighbourhood for five years.

He says the new school will help to complete Copperfield.

“I think it is good for the residents here,” Arrol says. “They were waiting, anticipating for sometime so their children weren’t being transported, bussed away from home. It’s got to be a relief I’m sure.”

Today’s openings are part of a larger promise from Premier Alison Redford.

In early April, she vowed her government would build 50 new schools and renovate 70 more.

The plan is expected to cost $2.4-billion and take four years to complete.
