According to witnesses, what started as an argument over baseball ended in the death of a 41-year old father of two early Sunday morning at a southwest Calgary bar.
27-year old Scott Hooser of Calgary is charged with manslaughter after police say an earlier argument inside Swig’s Pub and Grill later turned into a fight outside.
Staff Sergeant Doug Andrus describes the death of Brian Ludwig as ‘tragic’, nothing eyewitnesses say the chain of events was sparked by an argument about a pitcher with the Toronto Blue Jays.
The accused is alleged to have delivered a single blow to the victim’s head more than an hour after that argument.
Andrus says, while bar fights are common, they can take a turn for the worse in an instant.
“It can go pretty wrong, pretty fast and again we have an incident here where have an unlawful act committed and now we have someone deceased. So the consequences of something like that can be pretty extreme,” says Andrus.
The victim was visiting with friends after a golf tournament hosted by the southwest pub.
Andrus says alcohol is a factor in their investigation.
