Canada Post has reported a loss of $10-million in the second quarter, as volumes of ‘snail mail’ continue to fall.
The crown corporation delivered 31-million fewer pieces of mail in the second quarter, down a significant 4.4 per cent from a year ago.
The $10-million loss in a reduction from the $18-million lost in the second quarter of last year, although officials say the numbers are skewed by last summer’s lockout.
Operational costs rose about 6.1 per cent to $1.47 billion, with Canada Post pointing to the fact that 71 per cent of its overall costs are labour-related.
