Police officials have confirmed that all nine people wounded in Friday’s shooting outside the Empire State Building were injured by police gunfire.

Authorities said the bystanders not directly hit by gunfire, but rather were injured by bullet fragments that had bounced off nearby benches and objects.

Six of the wounded victims were treated at hospital and have been released.

Three other victims are still being treated for what are described as non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident began when a laid-off clothing designer fatally shot a former colleague near the Empire State Building Friday morning.

He was then shot dead by a pair of police officers during a confrontation that saw the nine bystanders wounded.

Surveillance video shows that the confrontation lasted only a few seconds.

Officials said officers responded appropriately when the shooter pointed his gun at them.

The surveillance video shows the officers shooting Johnson repeatedly as bystanders scramble.
