Rita Phillip is in police custody after she was picked up Thursday night at a northeast casino in Calgary.

The 57-year-old is accused of ordering two dogs, which she apparently didn’t own but was caring for, to attack another woman.

Police Duty Inspector Paul Stacey tells 660News just before midnight on Thursday, they got a tip that Phillip was gambling at Casino Calgary on Meridian Road.

Stacey says after it was confirmed by security cameras she was indeed inside, officers moved in and made the arrest without incident.

Phillip is facing several charges, including aggravated assault, and is expected to be formally charged Friday.

On Saturday, August 18th, the Mounties got a call about a dog attack at a home in Sundre Mobile Estates, about 120 kilometres northwest of Calgary.

Upon arrival, officers found an unconscious woman who suffered serious injuries to her face and arms.

The 26-year-old Calgary woman was airlifted to hospital and continues to recover.

One of the two dogs, believed to be a breed of pit-bull, was shot and killed at the scene because it was overly aggressive; the other dog remains in quarantine.
