Sears is in the process of shutting down stores across Canada, including three flag-ship stores.
One of those is in Calgary at Chinook Centre.
Also getting the axe is the Deerfoot Mall location as the retailer sells back the space to mall owners as a part of a restructuring plan.
The company’s president and CEO is hopeful for the future and says the transformation is already underway.
Calvin McDonald says the transformation has already begun with the company zeroing in on key products and services.
“There are certain categories, and brands, and services that we have that we believe make us very unique,” says McDonald. “We’re focused on making sure we execute those flawlessly every day and that customers give us credit for those.”
McDonald says another key focus is on expanding their dealer store network which already stands at 280 stores.
He points out some 10-million Canadians live in centres that can’t support a full-line store, but are ideal locations for dealer outlets which can order any product from the Sears Catalogue.
