Too many drivers aren’t hanging up their phones while on the road.
One year after the distracted driving law came into effect, Calgary police are seeing a rise in offenders.
In November, 290 tickets were handed out; the number shot up by 50 each month until June when police pulled over 644 offenders.
The number tapered off in July to 468.
The law includes other distractions like grooming or playing with a GPS, but most of the tickets are for hand held phones.
Police want the message to be re-enforced; not paying attention on the road can be dangerous.
