The Calgary Police Service is looking for more females as the force celebrates the centennial of women joining Canada’s policing ranks.

A free conference in October will honour 100 years of female policing in Canada, and encourage new female recruits in Calgary.

The first female officer in the country joined the Vancouver police in 1912 and Calgary’s first policewoman joined in 1945.

Staff Sgt. Jennifer Lessard says they want to find out what may be holding women applicants back.

The Calgary Sun reports the conference will include roundtable discussions and speeches from some of the highest ranking female officers in the CPS.
