Police hope to issue a warrant either Monday afternoon or early evening for the suspect in an early morning shooting in Martindale.

Until then, the 52-year-old man’s identity will not be released, though he can be arrested when located.

The man and the 58-year-old victim were in a common-law relationship for about six years, although earlier this month, he was ordered not to have any contact with the alleged victim.

Duty inspector Jim Leung says the fight began inside a residence on Martindale Blvd NE, and then spilled out to the front yard where shots were fired.

“There were three rounds,” he says. “The victim was shot once in the stomach and twice in the leg. There was also a fourth round and we know that that had missed the victim.”

After a thorough search of the residence, Leung added the suspect did not have a registered firearm.

“At this point, the firearm has not been located and we believe that he is still at large,” explains Leung.

Detectives are looking at a minimum of two charges for now, including aggravated assault and assault with a weapon, although there will probably be more in the future.

Police also still believe the suspect is in the northeast.

On August 7th, the man was charged with a domestic-related incident at the home and was ordered not to have any contact with the alleged victim.

He later broke that order and turned himself in August 13th, but was released the same day.

The victim remains in stable condition after speaking with investigators Monday morning.
