A two-year-old girl was left a little shaken after a free-roaming peacock at the Calgary Zoo pecked and clawed at her face.

Mandy Anderson says her daughter was crouching on the ground about a metre from the bird and when she stood up, the bird lunged at her, pecking above her eye.

According to The Calgary Herald, zoo staff acted quickly administering first aid but Anderson is calling on staff to warn the public to stay away from the birds.

A zoo spokesperson says over a dozen peacocks roam the grounds but the bird involved won’t be allowed to mingle with the public.
