A 29-year-old man, formerly part of Calgary’s music scene, is being investigated for allegedly faking cancer for money.

Kristopher Cook told his friends he had brain cancer last year and they rallied together to hold a fundraiser, putting $10,000 towards what they believed were medical bills.

The Calgary Police Service is now being told Cook didn’t actually have brain cancer and people haven’t seen him since.

Friends of Cook say he was easy to trust, telling them his sister died of brain cancer a few years ago, a claim his estranged father tells The Calgary Sun is entirely false.

Police believe Cook is living in Victoria and could face fraud charges.
