Calgary international airport awash in red and white Monday afternoon.

A large  crowd of family members, friends, and fans gathered to welcome home a handful of Canadian athletes fresh off the plane from London 2012.

Gymnast Nathan Gafuik says he didn’t expect this welcome home and is proud of his efforts in London.

“I think I did a great job coming back from the injury, so I am quite happy with myself.

He was greeted by a proud Grandmother and two equally excited young nieces.

Cyclist Monika Sullivan says the 2012 Games were bittersweet for her.

“Just because some of my teammates were able to put in the performances that they were capable of and just to have so much dedicated to one day there are so many variables, most of which are out of your control,” said Sullivan.  “There is a lot of heart-break out there.”

Douglas Chisma and Andrew Burns from the silver medal winning men’s eights rowing team proudly displayed their medals.

“A really tough fought battle it was a lot of hard training back here in Canada.  Really happy to be back, really happy to have done so well for Canada,” said Chisma.
