Mounties have charged a man from Priddis in the death of an MD of Foothills Peace Officer.

46-year-old Trevor Kloschinski faces a single count of first degree murder.

Police say the charge is based on the totality of the circumstances and the evidence known so far.

Former RCMP detective Rod Lazenby died in hospital Friday after being taken to a southeast Calgary police station badly injured.

Lazenby was answering a complaint about dogs at the Tangled Spur Ranch.

The Calgary Sun reports Lazenby was ambushed, handcuffed and severely beaten responding to the call on the property.

Police would not comment on those allegations at a news conference held on Saturday.

Along with being a former RCMP officer, the Calgary Herald reports Lazenby also posed as a mobster back in 2002 to help solve a 1980′s killing.
