More affordable housing has arrived in Calgary.

A number of dignitaries took part in the ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday to officially open Victoria Gardens in the northwest.

The three-storey housing development contains 18 one and 16 two bedroom units.

Minister of State of Foreign Affairs Dianne Ablonzy says it’s an important investment made by federal government and our province.

“You think about the cost of land in Calgary, you think about this is a high cost city and that’s why we made this kind of housing for people who are doing everything they can but they just don’t have the income to meet the rent in Calgary,” Ablonzy says.

$4.1 million in funding is coming from the feds and the Redford government.

Rent for a one bedroom is around $820 a month and a two bedroom is about $990.
