Calgary cricketers are so desperate for space they’re heading as far afield as Red Deer to get practice time.

The head of the Calgary and District Cricket League says there are only three pitches in this city for an estimated 1800 athletes. Some groups have to wait four weeks to get a practice time. A city parks official says they’ve identified possible sites for new pitches, but it could take years before they’re developed.

In the meantime, she says the city would consider re-purposing sports fields if they’re not fully booked up.
