Doctors in Alberta are raising the alarm over vaccination rates in the province. The numbers are continuing to fall and physicians say that could pose a problem.
A mother of three, Debbie says the shots were a must-have for her children in school.
“When you get older,” Debbie tells 660News, “it would be a personal choice. But I do believe that there are diseases — that by vaccination — we can get rid of them.”
Shelley would vaccinate her boys again if given the choice.
“It is a worry that if they aren’t, diseases that we don’t have right now could sky rocket,” Shelley tells 660News.
“I think every child, especially in this country, should be vaccinated,” adds Arlene, a step-mother of three. “It will prevent the spread of a lot of diseases that are out there now and in the future.”
But a grandmother, during the 660News straw poll in southeast Forest Lawn, has a different opinion on the issue.
“Many, many children, I feel, become autistic because of some of the needles that are happening,” says the woman who adds a friend lost their two month old days after the child was vaccinated. “And I think that we should take the naturopathic route.
“You get the disease, you take the chance as well,” she adds. “I realize that. But there’s so many other things that can come into focus that can ruin our children’s health. Bringing awareness to having shots is fine with some of the shots, but with most of them I really feel they cause side effects.”
Vaccination numbers have dropped so much, medical officials fear whooping cough could soon make a comeback and maladies such as measles could increase.
