If the idea of floating down the Bow or Elbow rivers on a hot day seems enticing, keep the rules of the waterways in mind.
It might be a long weekend, but police and bylaw officers are keeping tabs on activities on the waterways.
According to the Calgary Herald, over the past two weekends 12 tickets have been issued to people not wearing life jackets on the rivers. Another 17 tickets have been handed out for having booze on board. A ticket for drinking carries a fine of $115, while the fine for endangering people on water can go as high as $10,000 and lead to a criminal charge.
Bylaw’s Sue Wall says on a busy weekend like this, her officers can issue as many as 50 tickets a day to people for not wearing life jackets.
