A party in Calgary’s oldest neighbourhood.
Around 40,000 people in all are expected to take in the annual Sunfest Festival in Inglewood Saturday, a steady increase from 2011.
Up and down 9th Avenue SE are circus performers thrilling the crowd, blacksmiths making blades from scratch and around 200 music, food and community vendors.
Jake Blumis from the Inglewood Community Association and volunteer liaison with the BRZ said the plan for 2012 was to stick with what has worked in the past.
“We’re just continuing on the really good booths and festival activities that people really like, the car show, the pie eating contest,” he said.
Association president Bill Bakelaar said however, there are some thing out of the ordinary.
“Most of it is standard, we are going to have some surprises today,” he said. “We’re expecting a bit of a flash mob down the street as well today near the end of the day, so that should be interesting.”
This summer is also the third straight of great weather for the festival.
There are also 20 more vendors compared to 2011.
