Alberta’s Health Minister will be on the hot seat over a scandal swirling around a former top executive at Alberta Health Services.
Fred Horne will face the media at 10:00 a.m. at the legislature Thursday.
He has already issued a statement about the departure of Allaudin Merali. The AHS executive Vice President and CFO stepped down after expense claims dating back to 2005 to 2008, showing he claimed nearly $350-thousand for everything from meals to car repairs to expensive trips during his time at Edmonton Health Region.
Horne says he’s satisfied with the decision by AHS to ask the Auditor General to get involved, but he understands why Albertans would be concerned.
