This long weekend will feature sun, fun and extremely long waits at border crossings; many will enjoy some time in the United States for a few days – but Monday is expected be slow as you try and make your way back.

Lisa White with the Canada Border Agency tells 660News the high loonie is the reason for the expected long lines.

“Expect to see double what we would get on a normal summer weekend. Summer is a busy time for us anyways, but when you add a long weekend and the the fact that the Canadian dollar almost at par, we are expecting double what we would normally get” says White.

White suggests to hit the crossing in the afternoon as late afternoon and early evening are the busiest times; also have all of your documentation and shopping receipts ready.
