On time and on budget, officials working on Calgary International’s expansion plans estimate they’ve finished a third of the new runway.
Coming in just over 14,000 feet in length, the new commercial strip will be the largest in the nation once it’s done.
350 men and women are working on 52 different projects with respect to the project.
Senior VP of Engineering Bob Schmidt tells 660News things are moving smoothly.
“This facility is being paid through the airport improvement fee, that is the money that is collected on your ticket to accommodate airport expansion, similar to all other airports across the country,” Schmidt says.
Once it’s finished, Schmidt says they’ll be able to handle any size of aircraft and anticipates this will double the amount of air traffic to Calgary.
Target completion date is May 2014.
