Calgary police continue to piece together the cause of a fatal crash along Highway 8.
Around 5:30 Tuesday afternoon in the 7700 block of the highway, a Ford Focus travelling westbound crossed the yellow line and hit a tanker truck.
The 18-year-old driver of the Focus was pronounced dead on scene and Sergeant Colin Foster of the traffic section tells 660News police are investigating a couple of possibilities.
“We are looking at his cell phone, we’re looking at his positioning inside the vehicle, we’re looking at the radio inside the vehicle, any of those things may have cause him to be distracted,” Foster says.
An autopsy will be completed on the victim in the next few days.
Foster could not comment on what witnesses have told police at this time.
The driver of the tanker truck was shaken but was not injured.
