Driving a noisy vehicle could get expensive for some motorists.

After a nearly two month grace period, by-law officials will begin issuing $200 dollar tickets Wednesday to drivers and motorcyclists caught breaking the 96 decibel limit on the city’s noise snare.

By-law boss Bill Bruce tells the Calgary Sun, the snare was taken out of service for a short time so its battery could be replaced and video software upgraded.

The noise snare takes photo and video of offending vehicles and motorbikes which is sent to the registered owner, much like a photo radar ticket.

Officials have said it will be deployed across the city based on complaints.
