Calgarians hoping to catch ‘Olympic spirit’ won’t have far to look during the London 2012 Games.

Activities have been set-up across the city, as fans of all ages get set to watch Team Canada go for the gold.

In an effort to represent the kinship between the two Olympic cities, Mayor Naheed Nenshi will raise the flag of the United Kingdom Friday at 11 AM at old City Hall.

He’ll be joined by British Consul General Tony Kay.

Look for a lot of the fun later at Calgary’s own Olympic Oval.

Over the next seventeen days, the complex has turned its main floor into the Olympic Oval London Lounge.

Over two-and-a-half weeks, fans of all ages will be able to catch live TV viewing from London as well as highlights from Calgary’s own trained athletes.

Organizers are hoping it will be a place for the community to come together and share in the spirit of London 2012.

TV viewing will start Friday at noon.

A themed party will begin start two hours later, called ‘Tea-time at Two’, where British-style refreshments will be served to coincide with the opening ceremonies.

Calgarians of all ages are being encouraged to come down.

Fans stuck in the office haven’t been forgotten about; downtown Calgary has set up a large viewing screen along Stephen Avenue near Third Street, broadcasting all the action from London.

A lounge has also been set up, for those who brought their lunch and have some time to kill.

Marketing and Communications Manager Caralyn MacDonald says “it’s a great way to skip work for an hour or two.”
