Mayor Naheed Nenshi is headed to London next week to soak up some of the Olympic spirit, but he won’t be on the heels of Canadian athletes from Calgary.

“You know I think I’m going to let them focus on what they’re actually there do to but I hope to be a very enthusiastic cheerleader,” said Nenshi.

“If I’m in the stands, they’ll be hearing me cheer for sure.”

The mayor is also looking very forward to a well-deserved vacation.

“This will be the third time I’ve had the chance to visit the Olympic games. Here in 1988 and in Vancouver 2010 but this’ll be my first summer games,” said Nenshi.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how electric and excited the city is going to be, how the community has come together and hopefully cheering on a few of our hometown heroes.”
