The city is starting a review of aging recreational facilities in Calgary’s fastest growing neighbourhoods, starting with swimming pools in the Beltline and in Inglewood.

Officials are expecting both the Beltline Aquatic Centre and the Inglewood Aquatic Centre would face significant challenges in meeting increasing demand.

Built in the 1950′s, both pools are approaching the end of their anticipated life spans and haven’t seen any upgrades to compensate for a rapid increase in population.

According to The Calgary Sun, the study, though focused on two swimming pools, will survey 60,000 people in 15 communities, almost 20,000 of which are in the Beltline.
