Since the 1920′s the Plaza Theatre has been a prominent fixture in Kensington, but without a major technical upgrade, independent film festivals will have to find a new home.
In order to stay open showing commercial films, the plaza needs to update the projector equipment to digital format which costs upwards of $100,000 which its owner can’t afford.
Local film organizations tell The Calgary Sun many festivals which are not-for profit and volunteer-run organizations would suffer and have started an online petition to try and raise the funds.
