The summer festival season continues this weekend, but with a bit of a twist in land-locked Southern Alberta.
Chestermere is stagng its annual Water Festival, Saturday.
Festival spokesperson Nancy Huneault tells 660News the festival gets underway bright and early.
“If you’re an early riser, we start at 5 a.m. with our fishing derby,” laughs Huneault. “But if you’re not, you come and join us at 11 o’clock. That’s when the wakeboard competition gets underway. And we have an annual car show, also.”
Huneault describes the wakeboard competition, in which competitors ride the waves on the lake, as the festival’s most popular competition.
New this year is the Redneck Regatta where only the imagination limits the type of vessel to navigate the lake in Chestermere.
As for the fishing derby, competitors will have an opportunity to land three tagged fish, one of which is worth $5000. If caught, the other two fish garner lesser prizes.
Other activities include the kids zone, artisan market, lake tours, the rubber duck race, musical shows, a beer gardens and of course fireworks to cap the day.
