Calgary Police have made a million dollar drug bust and dismantled, what they call “a sophisticated drug production and trafficking ring”.
Officers seized about 10.7 kilograms of cocaine worth a million dollars on the street, more than $125,000 in cash and six vehicles.
They found the drugs and money in a number of locations throughout the city, including a safe in the 200 block of 13th Ave southeast, in a home in the 100 block of 19th Ave northeast, and hidden in a freezer in a northwest home.
Cash was also found in a hidden compartment in one of the cars.
Four people are facing charges and Sgt. Jason Walker says at this point they don’t know how big this ring is as the people arrested were not on CPS radar.
“This is not some Mexican cartel, they are not at the very top, they are not dealing on the street, not the very bottom they are somewhere in the middle. Right now we’ve taken a chunk out of this puzzle so people beneath them are going to be short of supply and people above them are going to wonder what just happened here and have questions of their own,” said Sgt. Walker.
It all started with several tips called into police from the public back in February and ended when several search warrants were executed simultaneously Tuesday.
Sgt. Walker says there has been no connection made to any gang but this ring is considered to be linked to organized crime.
