A new survey has found 93 per cent of Albertans’ consider access to post-secondary education as an important factor to addressing the looming labour crisis.
Estimates over the next decade Alberta employers will need to find 114,000 workers.
The Chief Economist at the Calgary Chamber of Commerce say the labour shortage poises the biggest impediment to the province’s economic future.
Ben Brunnen says post-secondary schools need to see what can be done to expand capacity, while improving both affordability and scheduling flexibility.
Brunnen also says business leaders need to clearly explain what they are looking for from graduates so courses and programs can be customized to meet industry needs.
