Calgarians will soon have an “Olympic” way to skip an hour or two of work.

A large screen is being set up along Stephen Avenue for everyone to watch the Olympic Games.

The idea is the brainchild of Downtown Calgary.

Marketing and Communications Manager Caralyn MacDonald tells 660News they wanted to find a way to keep the spirit in Calgary alive.

“We do have a little celebration, we’re calling it the Stephen Avenue Walk celebration site,” she says. “So we do have a small little patio set up where people can bring their lunch down.”

The London Games she adds is only seven hours ahead of Calgary, so they are able to fit in a lot during the day.

“Calgary does tend to veer a little towards the winter and the Winter Games, but we thought with the games happening every two years and the summer time being a little more conducive to outdoor viewing, we thought this would be a great opportunity,” says MacDonald.
