A Calgary metal yard owner is facing 17 charges after a long smouldering blaze in April.

Calgary Metal Recycling Inc. & 3415 Ogden Holdings Inc. face the charges under the provincial fire and safety code acts.

The maximum fine for each count is $1500.

The charges are:

– Four counts of failing to ensure storage pile heights conform to the Alberta Fire Code;
– Four counts of failing to ensure the storage pile sizes conform to the Alberta Fire Code;
– Seven counts of failing to provide clear space between storage piles and buildings in compliance with the Alberta Fire Code;
– Two counts of failing to provide an access route for Fire Department vehicles in compliance with the Alberta Fire Code.

The blaze took almost two full weeks to get under control.

The case will be in court, September 15, 2012.
