Hoping to help a grieving mother in her time of need, hundreds of people from around the world have rallied around a Florida woman who lost both of her children in Thursday’s landslide.
Organizer and long-time friend Kellie Kuecha tells 660News it was a group of friends of Lynn Migdal’s who decided to go to work and help raise funds.
A chiropractor and holistic healer by trade, Kuecha says Migdal is handling the situation as best she can.
“She knows how to do breathe work to keep herself calm and she’s remained as calm as she can possibly remain while trying to figure out if her children will be rescued,” Kuecha says. “At that time we believed they were still alive.”
Migdal flew to British Columbia Saturday and was flown by first responders over the disaster area.
The body of one of her daughters was pulled from under ten metres or rubble Monday while the other remains unaccounted for.
The two were visiting their father, her ex-husband, in Johnsons Landing.
“We decided she gave so much back, one of the things I love so much is if you ever needed treatment and didn’t have the money, she still opened her doors,” says Kuecha.
“All of us are mothers, I have four children and I think it’s a mother’s worst nightmare to think what might happen if you lose your children,” Kuecha adds. “She’s living this out now.”
They’re hoping to raise funds because natural disasters are not covered in home owner’s policies.
“Secondly, she’s a chiropractor and self-employed, so if she’s not working she’s not making money and she has a whole office of people to support,” she adds.
In 24 hours, a Facebook page has gathered 300 supporters and raised more than $10,000.
Kuecha’s hoping they can double, even triple that in hopes of allowing Lynn four to six months to grieve without having to deal with financial worries.
