The doors of businesses on the main floor of Rocky Mountain Court will remain slammed shut for at least a few months according to the city’s building regulations department.

The city forced the closure of the businesses in the apartment building at 221 6 Ave. S.E. Thursday when it was discovered wooden posts were being used as support poles in the underground parking garage.

“We shut them down. They’re out of business. It’s a horrible situation for them. Public safety is our primary concern and unfortunately businesses ended up paying the price in this instance,” says the city’s Cliff De Jong.

He says the lobby is safe enough to use for residents to continue living in the building, and parking is being provided by the city until a more permanent solution can be found.

Rocky Mountain’s ownership group has hired an engineer to establish a plan to fix the problems.
