It appears the flu is not necessarily the biggest cause of sick calls in Canada.

A beautiful sunny day may actually be the worst culprit.

Quite a few Canadians tend to play hooky when it’s a perfect summer day with a humidex of 27.2 C and a wind of 14.7 km/h.

The Globe and Mail report puts unionized workers, more specifically nurses, at the top of the “call in sick” list, also up there are women and mom’s with pre-school kids.

Across the country, Calgarians are the least likely to play hooky.  Last year, Cowtown residents called in sick an average of 7.1 days, Edmontonians took 8.1 days off, and people living in Gatineau, Quebec called in sick 11.7 days.

660News meteorologist David Spence says the perfect summer day or days are finished, with the temperatures cooling off in Calgary.
