The Calgary Stampede Showband has taken first place at the World Association of Marching Showbands World Championship.
The competition was held Tuesday night at the Saddledome and is considered to be the largest and most well-respected competition of its kind in the world.
Band Director Mike Jewitt says they’re thrilled to win this prestigious award on home turf and during the centennial celebration.
Calgary has hosted the world championship in 1996 and 2000 and on both occasions, the Stampede Showband took home the top prize.
