Calgary Fire had to respond to a blaze at the Shepard landfill just after 7:30 Tuesday evening.

The department’s Larry Fisher tells 660News, it’s now under control.

He says, “We responded initially with one engine, discovered a fire at the edge of the landfill. There was about two metres of material in the section that was burning. We brought in two tanker trucks that carry two thousand litres each and it’s all but extinguished.”

Officials were concerned nearby residents would be hit by an awful aroma from the fire, but they were able to respond quickly to prevent any smoke damage.
