The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth is really becoming a multi-cultural phenomenon.

United Way and the Shia Ismali Muslim Community hosted a pancake breakfast Saturday morning.

Mayor Nenshi was there and he made history in 2010 becoming the first elected Muslim mayor in major Canadian city.

Habib Kurwa is a volunteer at the Ismali Muslim community centre.

Kurwa tells 660News Muslims in Calgary are really embracing the Stampede spirit.

He says, “The Ismali Muslim community have taken to heart as a community that’s been here many years, we came here and were welcomed to Canada, sets their roots up here.  We joined the Calgary community and look forward to Strengthening the community with their work”

Another sign the Stampede is more multi-cultural than ever before, the Ismali Muslim Community won the best overall float during the Friday’s parade.

United Way and the Shia Ismali Muslim Community are also combining their efforts to support the Burns Memorial Trust, which identifies youth who are struggling to finish high school.
