It’s the first day of summer, and like clockwork, gas prices have spiked around the city by about 5 or 6 cents a litre.
Co-founder of gasbuddy.com, Jason Toews, says this jump is typical for this time of year, and the jolt may seem particularly jarring because Albertans have been enjoying comparatively lower prices than those living in other provinces.
“This is kind if playing a little bit of catch up in gas prices,” says Toews. “But as we get into full swing of summer driving season I’m expecting to see prices go a little bit higher yet.”
He adds, it’s typical for prices to spike right before long weekends due to higher demand.
