Musical ‘Million Dollar Quartet’ packing up from New York after 900 shows on and off Broadway

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Tony-nominated musical “Million Dollar Quartet” will soon no longer be rocking New York.

Producers of the show, currently off-Broadway at New World Stages, said Thursday the final performance will be June 24. It will have played over 900 shows both on and off Broadway.

It spent a year performing at the Nederlander Theatre before moving to New World Stages last July.

The musical tells the story of a real-life impromptu jam session on Dec. 4, 1956, between Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley at Sun Records’ storefront studio in Memphis, Tenn.

A production of the show is in its fourth year in Chicago and there is a national tour currently moving across the country. A London production ended in 2011.
