The sky will light up with a “super moon” Saturday night.
At about 9:00 p.m., the full-moon will be the closest it gets to the earth this year.
It happens when a full moon coincides with perigee, it’s closest approach to earth. The moon will be 16 per cent brighter than the average full moon, but astronomer Alan Dyer of Telus Spark says it likely won’t look any bigger to the naked eye.
“The difference in size is so slight, your eye really can’t detect it,” said Dyer.
It does have an effect on the tides which are expected to be unusually high and low this weekend.
